Nyesom Wike vs Atiku Abubakar Going by his attitudinal doggedness and political rascal, the former Governor of Rivers State and incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has been suggested for suspension or expulsion from the party by many members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and mostly, the followers of the political doctrine of the former vice president of Nigeria and a serial presidential contestant, Atiku Abubakar.
It is not new, Nyesom Wike has been involved in many political battles with his supposedly superior masters in politics but rather than being forced out of the party, he was either pacified or gained strength to force out his close competitor.
Recall that Nysom Wike, although with the support of the presidential power under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, muscled out his erstwhile political leader and a former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi from PDP and his political rascal has kept Amaechi out of political relevance in Rivers State till today.
Whether or not the same will happen, particularly to Atiku Abubakar who is the main political actor in the PDP whose political school of thought stands opposite to Nyesom Wike’s, what is at sight now is that it is practically impossible to artificially get Nyesom Wike out of PDP because he is as strong as the strongest politician in the party today.
Unfortunately, the majority of people who suggest that Wike should be suspended or expelled from the party forget that the strongest organ of a political party where the process to suspend or expel a politician could commence from is the Ward where the politician hails from, politically.
Take into consideration, if as strong as former president Olusegun Obasanjo was, during his presidential tenure, if he could not successfully get rid of Atiku Abubakar by influencing his suspension or expulsion from the party, it would be incoherent and a deadlocked mission for anyone to aim Wike could just be suspended or expelled from PDP without the Chairman of his ward raising a motion through the Local Government Chairman of PDP in Wike’s Local Government and the letter must be endorsed by the Rivers State PDP Chairman before it could be ratified by the National Working Committee of the PDP which is not even in total control by Atiku.
Besides the fact that none of the Ward chairman, local government chairman, or Rivers State Chairman of PDP will sacrifice their son, Nyesom Wike for Atiku Abubakar’s political mission, it is important to also recall that Wike’s camp of the PDP also has 50% control over the leadership of the party’s NWC as his camp produced the embattled National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Deputy Chairman of the Party (South), Taofik Arapaja amongst others.
This implies that an attempt to suspend or expel Nyesom Wike from the PDP will have Atiku Abubakar and a couple of other PDP leaders suspended or expelled, accordingly, as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party will gracefully be divided along the two leadership pattern. In short, this may result in the demolition of the PDP as a party, and looking at the political relevance of Nyesom Wike, in this worst situation, while Atiku Abubakar and his followers may storm out of the party, Wike and his group will stay back as they have nothing to lose retaining their PDP membership.
Interestingly, what many members of the PDP failed to understand, today, is that Nyesom Wike is more in the control of PDP than Atiku Abubakar is. This is because Nyesom Wike was instrumental in the emergence of the majority of the Governors, Senators, and powerful members of the PDP, today.
