Who is Hadiza Bala Usman?

Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman, born on January 2nd, 1976 in Zaria, Kaduna State. On Saturday June 28th 2025, Hadiza was speculated to have been appointed as the first female Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Although the speculated appointment has been refined by the Presidency.


Hadiza Bala Usman is a member of the Fulani Sullubawa clan and a great-granddaughter of Abdullahi Bayero, the 10th Emir of Kano.


Previous Positions Headed By Hadiza Bala Usman


Special Adviser on Policy Coordination

Currently, she advises President Bola Tinubu on policy matters.


Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)

She served in this role from 2016 to 2021, implementing reforms and generating more revenue for the federal government.


Chief of Staff, Kaduna State Government Under Governor Nasir El-Rufai, she became the first woman to hold this position in Kaduna State.

Bring Back Our Girls Campaign

She co-founded this campaign to advocate for the rescue of Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.

Women's Rights and Education

She's recognized for her advocacy on women's empowerment and girl-child education.

Leadership Roles

She's held various positions, including director of strategy at the Good Governance Group and enterprise officer at the Bureau of Public Enterprises.


Presidency Refutes Hadiza's Appointment as SGF


Refuting the speculated appointment of Hadiza as the new Secretary General of the Federation, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said "Akume remains SGF".


He said;


There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.


The information circulating about Akume's replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.


The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.
