Can USB Port On The GoTV Decoder Used To Play Media Files Saved on Flash Drive

The Round Table Thumbnail

Actually Universal Serial Bus (USB) is designed to perform many functions including transmission of media files between USB enabled drives and the media players. However, it is important to note that it is not all devices with the USB port that can deliver all these functions, and the GoTV decoder is one of these.

Some USB ports were designed purposely not to output media object, while some were designed purposely for enabling users to import update to the device containing it.

In the case of the GoTV decoder, the USB present on the decoder will not play your flash drive because the decoder was designed not to output any object from the USB port.

The decoder may be able to read your flash drive but it won't output its contents to the television for display. So everything on your flash drive ends within the GoTV decoder even without you seeing it.

However, with some smart TV presently having tye USB port, you can directly play your flash drive by connecting it directly to the television and alternatively if your TV doesn't have a USB port, you can still connect devices with USB output to play videos through it using various adapters or converters.

HDMI Converter/Adapter

If your TV has HDMI ports, you can use a USB-to-HDMI adapter or converter. Some devices, like laptops, can output HDMI signals through USB-C or other ports with the right adapter.

Wireless Streaming Devices

Devices like Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Roku Streaming Stick can connect to your TV via HDMI and stream content wirelessly from your phone, tablet, or computer.

Media Players

Media players like Apple TV, Android TV boxes, or other media streaming devices can connect to your TV via HDMI and access content from various sources, including USB storage devices connected to the media player itself.

DLNA or UPnP Devices

Some smart TVs and media players support DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) or UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), allowing you to stream content from devices on your network without needing a direct USB connection.

Adapters for Specific Devices

Depending on the device you're trying to connect (e.g., a smartphone or laptop), there might be specific adapters or cables (like MHL for some Android devices) that can connect your device directly to the TV's HDMI port.

Please take note, before you go out in search for any of the above adapter, it is important to get these right.

TV Ports

Identify the available ports on your TV (HDMI, VGA, Composite, etc.).

Device Output

Check to determine the output options of the device you want to connect (USB-C, HDMI, etc.).

After identifying the above, you can now step out in search for appropriate adapter or streaming device that matches your TV's input capabilities and your device's output options.

As in the case of the GoTV decoder, the USB port present on the device is more or less meant to only output 500mA or electric current from the device so it can be used to charge or power some other devices.
