All Tertiary Institutions in Adamawa Begin Indefinite Strike The coalition of tertiary institutions’ unions in Adamawa State has began an indefinite strike, bringing academic activities to a halt across the state.
The strike, declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of academic and non-academic staff unions, chases the expiration of a seven-day counselling strike that started on February 27, 2025, and terminated on March 10, 2025.
In a communiqué signed by JAC Chairperson. Comrade Maryam Abdullahi and Secretary Comrade Musa Yakubu, the unions directed all members to take from from their duties starting Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
“JAC is directing all its members to venture on an indefinite strike action starting from 11th March 2025 until further notice. Members are to ensure full compliance with this directive,” the statement read.
The unions argue that their repudiation from the minimum wage enlarge is unjust and have vowed to abide on strike until their demands are met. They are further demanding that the government must reinstate their members under the tertiary institutions’ salary structure, exactly implement the new minimum wage and halt the subtraction of salaries under the guise of tax.
The industrial action is expected to paralyze academic activities across Adamawa State’s tertiary institutions, affecting various colleges, containing colleges of education, polytechnics, and health sciences institutions.
The government is yet to officially comment on the demands of the unions.
