Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu The death of the former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, is still shocking though he seemed to have foreseen the possibility of his demise and, almost, everything happening in the politics of Ondo State, today.
Replaying the audio track of Akeredolu's inaugural speech when he was sworn in for the second term on 24 February 2021 as the Executive Governor of Ondo State.
He was at the top of his voice, eulogizing the loyalty of his choice of deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and he encouraged people to know the kind of names they would give to their children.
Akeredolu in his speech said you can see "Lucky" is lucky today to become the choice of his Deputy Governor recalling that Akeredolu changed his deputy Governor who served with him in his first term in Office as Governor of Ondo State due to political imbroglio between them.
The crucial part of Akeredolu's speech during his second term inauguration was when he pointed people present at the occasion to the power in the words of his Deputy Governor's name, Aiyedatiwa.
Akeredolu pointedly said "Aiyedatiwa, Aiye ti da tiẹ náà báyìí oo" Yoruba words meaning, "Aiyedatiwa, the world has now turned to be yours now."
Literarily, Aiyedatiwa means "The world is now ours" or "The world has now become ours".
To put the prophecy clearer, Akeredolu, in the speech, after saying the world has now turned to favor his deputy, said I [Akeredolu] will have to go down for Aiyedatiwa to come up.
Unaware to the present audience that former Governor Akeredolu was being prophetical, he clearly stated that Lucky Aiyedatiwa is lucky to start from where I stop [Governorship position], and I will go down for him to come up [Akeredolu's death and Aiyedatiwa's becoming the Executive Governor of Ondo State].
There could be a point of confusion as to whether Akeredolu's choice of Aiyedatiwa was a perfect political calculation to balance his prophecy or just a natural appeasement.
There are speculations that Aiyedatiwa is directly related to Akeredolu on his mother's side. There is an allegation, unclear to us, that Akeredolu's mother is from the Ilaje area of Ondo State with some people claiming she is from Igbokoda, the hometown of the incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
