Yahaya Bello vs EFCC: Lawyers Stage Road Protest Against EFCC
Lawyers protesting against EFCC in Yahaya Bello's Case
Funny but a reality, a group of Legal practitioners have protested the decision by the Nigerian anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Recall that, recently, EFCC declared former Governor Yahaya Bello wanted after declining a series of invitations sent to him for questioning on an allegation relating to financial misappropriation when he was serving as the Executive Governor of Kogi State.

EFCC had accused Yahaya Bello of misappropriating about N88.1 billion within his eight years, of serving as the Executive Governor of Kogi State; a relative of the former Governor has already been arrested concerning the allegation and he had been cooperating with the anti-graft agency.

Following an allegation that the security detail assigned to Yahaya Bello had been of help, assisting him to evade arrest during a man-hunt by the EFCC at his Abuja residence, the Nigeria Police Force had withdrawn his aide de camp (ADC) and other police officers following the former Governor.

In what many Nigerians described as an unfortunate scenario, a group of lawyers have yesterday staged a protest against the move by the EFCC to probe the former Governor claiming EFCC is not showing respect for the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Many Nigerians have condemned the act embarked on by the lawyers with someone calling the lawyers "baby lawyers" who should not be taken seriously.

Another commentator on this development said, "These are a group of law students that failed in law school. They want to prove their potential.

Reacting to this development which many people described as a "shameful" one, Abubakar Sadiku Haruna said, “Some Lawyers refuse to give EFCC fair hearing, they went ahead to protest. Can we call them laymen? A true lawyer knows the principle of natural Justice ‘Audi Alterem Partem’. This is what EFCC needs from them now because this is a criminal case.”
