Early today, the House of the immediate former Governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle was raided by heavily armed policemen today in Maradun, Zamfara State.
Many citizens have been wondering why the house of a former governor of a state would be raided by the police force without prior notice, thus it is clear that there have not been many allegations and political power play between the ruling and opposition parties in Zamfara State that could have caused such action on the house of the former Governor.
However, it is possible and more of these could be expected in the following days. It may not occur to the former Governor but to any of his cabinet members.
According to a clarification made available on the raiding of Matawalle's house by the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, the house of former Governor Matawalle was raided because the police were looking for some cars which were declared missing from the government asset. Mr. Fani-Kayode condemned the invasion and called on the Inspector General of Police to caution the police officers involved in the raid operations.
Reacting to the raiding of Matawalle's house, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode said "This morning a detachment of policemen raided the home of my brother, the former Gov. of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle in Maradun. They claimed to be looking for cars. They did not have a search or arrest warrant or court order and they claimed to be acting on the orders of the new Governor. This is unacceptable. It is not only vindictive but also lawless and it stands condemned. I call on the IGP to call the officers that are involved to order. The abuse of power and the persecution of political opponents and adversaries have no place in Asiwaju's Nigeria.
