Rauf Aregbesola Former Osun State Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has revealed that his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), lost the Osun State Governorship election and the 2023 general election in the state because of indiscipline and mismanagement of party affairs by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola who is currently a Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
Rauf Aregbesola stated this while speaking at the launching of a splinter group within APC in the state, Omoluabi Progressives, Osun (OPO) at his hometown, Ilesha, Osun State.
Rauf Aregbesola and some members of the party who are loyal to him have gathered at his Ilesha countryhome to form the factional group of the party which he promised would be used to restored discipline to the party.
Speaking at the event, Rauf Aregbesola stated that “What we have come to do here today is to renew our commitment to the path of progressive ideology and politics as inherited from our great past heroes, beginning from Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Abraham Adesanya, Chief Bola Ige and others in the pantheon of progressive politics too numerous to mention.
Indirectly throwing jabs at the immediate past Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola and tye leadership of APC in the state, former Governor Aregbesola said “Our party failed principally because of indiscipline and lack/loss of focus. This is manifested in the form of lack of character and incompetence. Character is the mental and moral qualities required in an individual to occupy a certain office or perform a certain task. Competence is the skill required to get a specific task done. It is bad when one of the two is absent, but it is always catastrophic when both are absent. It is beyond disputation how the absence of these virtues spelt doom for our party in the recent past.”
