Photo Credit: Vanguard Over the past few months, some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formed a clique within the party and they seem to be waging political hostility against the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar. Circulating among some political observers in the country is whether the aggrieved PDP have achieved their goals or not.
Primarily, they held no grudge against the party and Atiku Abubakar than to ensure that the party, PDP, comply with the political norm in the country which has been honoured by other major political parties in the country. Hence, we can say the five PDP governors were aggrieved because the party failed to endorse power rotation. This may not be considered as an opposition to one's party, rather it is a bid to enforce the principle of democracy in a party.
The five governors who include Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu have resolved to stand on their ground and make sure that PDP learns from the culture of deviating from the societal norms. Who knows how the aggrieved governors would want to teach the lesson? Nobody can say until February 25th 2023.
Currently, there is no yardstick to measure the level of accomplishment of the objectives of the G5 governors because the game is still on and there is nothing to presume as the final result of their struggles until after the February 25th presidential election.
