The authority of the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross Rivers State, has approved the award of a scholarship grant to 34 undergraduate students of the institution who, currently, earned a Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, of 4.00 and above.
The award is part of this year's Edition of the University's annual maiden award, the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship Award Scheme, used to encourage students to squarely face their academic activities and excel.
During the presentation of the award, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, said that the scholarship was a response to her investiture speech on Dec. 1, 2020, where she noted in her manifesto to reposition the university in line with global best practices to a foremost ivory tower.
Obi said the scholarship lasts throughout the duration of the studies of the students provided they maintain the highest CGPA in the department which must not be less than 4.00.
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr Lucky, said the initiative was really inspiring and commendable while calling on the other V-C's to emulate the gesture.
