Bishop Oyedepo and Obi The matters arising from the February 25th presidential election in Nigeria took another dimensions, a shameful one, yesterday when a news outlet, The People's Gazette leaked a recorded audio of phone conversation between the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and one of the supposedly regarded pastors in the land, Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel International.
In the leaked phone conversation, Mr. Peter Obi was heard begging Bishop Oyedepo to help convincing his church congregation to vote for his party because of his religion. He told the Bishop that the election was a "Religious War".
However, this has sparked restive reactions from notable Nigerians and active users of the Nigerian social media spaces.
Former Aviation Minister and core members of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the leaked audio, discrediting Mr. Peter Obi for on the election as "Religious War".
Mr. Fani-Kayode also condemn the followers of Mr. Peter Obi for supporting his bigoted political mission, claiming the kind of the supporters of Mr. Peter Obi is the worst the country has ever experienced. He wrote:
"For Peter to describe the presidential election as a "religious war" tells you that he is nothing but an insufferable, irresponsible and uncouth intellectual barbarian and fraud and an ethnic and religious bigot.
"His crass, primitive, ill-bred, garrolous, treasonous, rebellious, uncouth, savage and hopelessly corrupt rabble of Obidient monkeys and Obidiot donkeys are the vilest and most accursed set of useful idiots, shape-shifting reptilians, infernal zombies and low-born slaves that Nigeria has ever known.
"They are loud, brash, violent, disrespectful, ugly and vexatious to the spirit and they are fuelled, inspired and motivated by nothing but hate, ignorance, frustration, rage, an inferiority complex and the poisonous venom of an angry viper.
"Such creatures belong in a mental institution and not in Aso Rock Villa.
"They can continue to threaten, insult, traumatise and terrorise us and attempt to destabilise our country and highjack our planes as much as they want, it changes nothing!
"Whether they like it or not, despite their subversion and treason, in two months time Bola Tinubu, our President-elect, SHALL be sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he will usher in a new era of peace, unity, prosperity and progress in the affairs of our country.
Also, reacting to the shameful phone conversation between Peter Obi and supposedly revered Bishop Oyedepo, prominent social commentators including Bayo Onanuga, Reno Omokri, Deji Adeyanju, Daniel Bwala and many other Nigerians are calling on Peter Obi to speak up to the public if the recorded voice was fake. Although some Nigerians still claim it was his right to tag the election a religious war because the All Progressives Congress (APC) presented a Muslim Muslim presidential ticket, while many supported his resolution for religious bigotry in the race for the same reason.
Nevertheless, vast majority of Nigerians condemn Mr. Peter Obi's stand and pray for Nigeria to never have someone like him as the President of the country. The describe the conversation as a shameful one that threaten peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.
