Three Political Parties to Watch Out for During Anambra 2025 Guber Poll

Following the kick-off of the off-season elections in some states across Nigeria, political parties are already in preparations ahead of the 2025 Governorship Election in Anambra State.

In this article, we will look at the three political parties in the country that may have relevance to give themselves a good run during the governorship election contest in Anambra State, come 2025.

Labour Party

Labour Party, unlike during the 2021 Governorship election in Anambra State, will be one of the three major political parties that will entertain political gladiators in the country since the Anambra 2025 guber poll is a concern.

Arguably, the man who happens to be the only hope for the Labour Party to have made this list in Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, is not politically strong enough to take the popularity of the party out of Anambra State when it comes to a non-national election where ethnicity and religious factors come to play, the fact that Anambra is his home state may influence the performance of the party in the forthcoming guber poll.

Sincerely speaking, the Labour Party has no better precedence than any of the other political parties that failed to make this list but the fact that the election is taking place in the home state of Mr. Peter Obi, he may want to solicit votes for the party’s candidate to, at least, rebrand his political career, recalling that the performances of the party in the recently conducted off-cycle elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States are nothing to write home about.

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is the ruling political party in the state, with better chances of marketing its governorship candidate, most probably Governor (Prof.) Charles Soludo who would be running for the second term in office.

Interestingly, unlike APC and the Labour Party in this context, APGA has a collection of achievements by the administration of Prof. Soludo to lay claim to in the course of selling the party to the people of the state.

Besides, another opportunity for APGA in the forthcoming 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State is the paternity between Igbo dominant people of the state and the party which could be described as a regional party of the Southeast geopolitical zone.

All Progressives Congress (APC)

Although the ruling party in the country, All Progressives Congress (APC) may not win the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, it would give other prominent parties in the governorship contest a good run during the poll.

Recall that APC was one of the three parties that keenly gave the run for the Anambra State Governorship seat a good run during the 2021 contest, the situation may not be different during the next election.

No doubt, APC has some factors that may work against its governorship candidate during the 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State, the incumbency of the party at the Federal Level will certainly give it hope to give the governorship contest a good run.

Among the factors that may assist APC to join the league of political parties to watch in the Anambra 2025 poll is the completion of the second Niger Bridge, a lifelong project that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had failed to bring to actualization for 16-year, thirst of some political stakeholders in the state to belong to the party at the center, and depreciation in both values and members that had rocked PDP in the state.

Although APC may not have a collection of claims that other political parties may use against it during the electioneering campaign, since the party has never governed the state like Prof. Soludo of the APGA and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, there is a standing tradition in the politics of the state that may stop the chances of APC in the forthcoming 2025 Anambra State Governorship election.
