Dr. George-Kelly Alabo Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly Alabo, has submitted his resignation letter to the Executive Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara. This is the third Commissioner to resign his position in Rivers State within 24 hours.
Early today, the Rivers State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state Professor Zacchaeus Adangor submitted his resignation letter to Governor Fubara, stating that his resignation was for "personal reasons".
A few hours after Prof. Adangor's resignation, the state Commissioner for Special Duty, Chief Emeka Woke tendered his resignation letter to the embattled Governor of the state, Fubara.
Commissioner for Work is seen as a very strong position that some State Governors pocket the portfolio to themselves. However, Dr. Alabo, in his resignation letter to Governor Fubara stated that his resignation is "anchored by his conscience, personal philosophy, and professional ethics.
Apart from the Commissioners who are resigning from their appointment 26 of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have announced their defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
The political development in Rivers State is a result of political drift between the Governor of the State, Fubara, and his predecessor who is also the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
