Former President of the National Labour Congress (NLC), Senator Adams Oshiomole, has tipped the leadership of the labour union to stop lamentations and face reality to get their rights.

Senator Oshiomole encouraged the labour leaders while speaking on the refusal of some governments at state and local levels to implement the N35,000 grant approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The former labour boss insisted that government at both state and local levels who are yet to implement the N35,000 grant for their staff deserve no peace. He, therefore, told the labour leaders to fight for the N35,000 grants as it remains their right.

When he was asked to share his view on the N35,000 grant approved for the workers by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and how workers at the state, local government levels, and private sector would survive the current economic hardships facing the country, Senator Oshiomole who was appeared on an interview programme with the Channels Television on Sunday said, “The Federal Government approved N35,000 increase on top of current wage levels. But I’m yet to understand why any Nigerian state government or governor is not implementing that agreement.

“I don’t agree that the money was for only federal employees. Federal employees don’t have different markets from state employees and the struggle that was mobilized, workers in Nigeria were mobilized in both public and private sectors in what we called a general strike before that money was awarded.

“By extension, therefore, all state governments, local governments, federal government, and private sector employers should implement it. I don’t think NLC's business is to lament it. They should fight for the implementation of their rights.

“Any government that refuses to implement the N35,000 is not entitled to peace. That’s my view.”
