Globally, a political party is believed to be a public entity and its administration is vested in the hands of the party executive. Painstakingly, the situation seems to be different with the Osun State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as the party is said to have been turned into a family affair.
Recently, a gale of defections hit the Osun State chapter of the PDP seeing thousands of the party's members dumping it for the leading opposition party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC).2
Notable among the defectors were the Parallel Governorship candidate of the party in the 2022 governorship election in the state, Prince Dotun Babayemi, his thousands of followers; serial governorship aspirant in the party, Kayode Oduoye popularly known as Superkay with his followers; prominent member of the party who is believed to be the King of Boys in Ifelodun Local Government Area, High Chief Bamidele Onifade popularly known as Elemo of Ikirunland and his followers, a prominent national member of the party and ex-member of the PDP Board of Trustee, Shuaib Oyedokun.

Other members of the Osun State chapter of PDP are still being speculated of finalizing plans to perfect their defection to APC. Many political observers were wary of the development even though those in the camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke kept claiming the detections were of no impact on the chances of the party in the forthcoming election in the state.

A source very close to the Governor revealed that the PDP members in the state have been tapped awoke by the Governor's incompetence. The source stated that the majority of the PDP members in Osun have been reduced to nothing by the family of the Governor.
The source further revealed that "even the Governor doesn't have a say in the government except what his family told him to do.".
This source alleged that many of the PDP members in Osun have been told by the Governor's family that they are nothing.
Another source, while referring us to some scenarios that escalated recently about the choice of the party's candidates for the forthcoming Local Government elections, claimed that Governor Adeleke's sister is the one behind the major defection hitting the party.
The source predicted near-to-zero membership of PDP if the Governor's sister continued with the allegation of high-handedness registered against her.
A source close to a federal lawmaker from the State also revealed to the RoundTable that some members of the PDP in Osun State will not defect but mimic, within Osun PDP ahead of the 2026 election, the conspiracy act displayed by a former Governor of the State, Rauf Aregbesola, and his followers against the APC during 2022 election in Osun.

The source insisted that the conspiracy act perpetrated by Rauf Aregbesola during the 2022 election in Osun would be childish when they begin their agenda ahead of the 2027 election.
A very reliable source within the sacked Local Government Area Executive members accused the state government of suffering them when they were appointed as council bosses. It claimed that each time they suggested to the power that be in the state, they were always told that they should manage with the little they were being given with the promise that money would begin to flow in the state before the end of 2025 when preparation for Adeleke's second term in Office must have commenced.
This source further stated that, if Governor Adeleke-led state government could maltreat them in his first tenure as he had done, his fellows feared the worst would happen to them during his second term when he would have no second term election inconsideration for him not to suffer them.
A source very close to the State House of Assembly accused a son of Governor Adeleke's brother of preparing a list of his preferred candidates that would be imposed in the party as the State Assembly candidates of PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.
A source close to the administration of the party in the state revealed to the RoundTable that at least eight of the twelve federal lawmakers from Osun State are aware that the 2027 ticket of the party has already been taken away from them. The source claimed that the Governor's family has allegedly dropped interest in them and their substitutes have been concluded.
Some members of the State Executive Council were also said to have been complaining of only partaking in what they called "drain table administration", alleging that the majority of them are figureheads in their various ministries.

Above all, the majority of the members of PDP in Osun State claimed that despite the huge allocations and federal interventions coming from President Bola Tinubu's presidency, the state government has chosen to politicize the facts, even at the detriment of the members of the party.
