NSCDC Senator Ita Enang has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Scrap the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for the State Police.
Senator Enang stated this while featuring on a Channels Television program, Politics Today, on Sunday.
Senator Enang claimed that FRSC and NSCDC are unnecessary, and only duplicate the responsibilities of the established security organizations, including Nigeria's Military and the Police Force.
Senator Enang suggested that officers who are currently serving with the NSCDC and FRSC should be deployed to automatically join the services of their respective State Police Forces.
He also implored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expedite the process of establishing the State Police by instructing the Attorney General of the Federation to draft an executive bill for submission to the National Assembly. He asserts that this bill should clearly define the boundaries of state police operations in relation to federal police.
Supporting the necessity for the creation of State Police despite the fear of their possible mismanagement in the hands of the state governors, Senator Enang claimed that the rate of insecurity in the country, most especially kidnapping and banditry has made more cases for the State Police to be created.
