Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) People express worries and disappointments as a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) shared an unverified news that there is plan to increase the tuition fee of the students in the school from the normal N30,000 school fee being paid per session to N150,000.
"There's an ongoing plan to increase School Fees from the current average of N30,000 to N150,000," the student claimed.
Reacting to the speculation, many Nigerians were surprised that there is still a school paying that low to bag First Degree. They claimed that 30,000 naira tuition fee is more or less like free education whereas the same set of students travel abroad to spend millions of naira pere session to 18 months second degree.
"Same people selling properties worth millions to study 1 year masters in UK are protesting 150k per session for 4year course... Let's get more funds for our education the way UK making money from educational sector," said Segun Joseph.
"30k university tuition fee 😂😂😂, money they use for beer in 3 hrs . Just tell us the school is free," said Mertromat.
"Don't mind him. Their school fee is 21k presently. I paid 19,800 throughout my stay in OAU. In fact, it was just increased to 21k after I finished in 2016. And majority of them collect nothing less than 100-200k from their parents as school fee," Ayobami claimed.
"It’s too small…quality education for just less than $300, where in the world can you get quality education with $300. If you can’t afford it , get student loan, Jagaban has made provision already and if it’s not enough add palmpay, gopay etc..let Asiwaju breeeeffffthhhh," Bayonle stated.
"4yrs will be 4yrs but we dont want to pay the price, despite being offered a students loan. Under pretense that we are all poor, we pay N30,000 for undergraduate degree, then leave to pay £16,000 in UK for 18 months Masters, to end up as care assistants in UK's psychiatric homes," Kemi hits.
"Nigerians are ungrateful and don't understand the opportunity cost of getting quality education. The BAT regime is doing the right thing, elite schools like OAU and the UNNs should pay at least 500k if we are to ever compete. Thank God for the student loan policy, ya kpotuba, Onye Ezeoku took position.
"OAU is one of the top 3 best universities in Nigeria. Yet, their tuition fee is a ridiculous N30,000 ($64) per year
Harvard is a top University in the US and the undergraduate tuition is $55,587 per year.
Please how can OAU compete and offer quality under this ridiculous price?, Pastor Marvy worried.
