Son of Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, Kola Abiola has stated that the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari did not wholeheartedly make June 12 every year a post-humor respect for his late dad, MKO Abiola.

Kola Abiola, featuring on an AriseTV program, stated that although former President Muhammadu Buhari dedicate the pronouncement of June 12th democracy day as an honor for his late dad he did not mention the name of his dad, even for once in his presidential speech on June 12th, 2018 when the declaration was made.

Reacting to the remark by Kola Abiola, many Nigerians debunked his claim and tagged him an 'ingrate' for the statement.

The following are some of the reactions from common Nigerians to the allegation raised by Kola Abiola.

Abubakar Sadiq Usman: How can anybody be this ungrateful? Somebody declared June 12 democracy day, solely in honor of your dad, something nobody dared to do and you’re here saying he never mentioned your dad during his June 12 speeches, assuming that is even true.

Tobi Matthew: He’s on his own. Buhari immortalized MKO, that’s what matters. Anything outside that corner of facts is merely a personal opinion(s)

Mr Narcos: He didn't just declare June 12 the democracy day, he bestowed on him the highest honor of the land which is only reserved to the President. He publicly apologizes to your family on behalf of the nation. Mentioning his name is now his problem, this is ungratefulness personified!

Peter Lanlehin: He even gave him GCFR and apologized to the family. Something even OBJ almost pushed Tinubu out of the chopper for. But I never expected anything less though, he's on AriseTv.

The Round Table - Fact check:

Former President Muhammadu Buhari mentioned the name of the Late MKO Abiola in his June 12, 2018 speech when he declared June 12, every year as "Democracy Day" in honor of the Late MKO Abiola.

Part of Muhammadu Buhari's speech on June 12, 2018 reads "On behalf of the Federal Government, I tender the nation’s apology to the family of the Late MKO Abiola, who got the highest votes in the June 12, 1993 election; and to all those who lost their loved ones in the cause of the June 12 struggle.
