Reactions as Federal Lawmakers Diverted President Tinubu's N36 Billion Cash Palliatives and 1,440 Trailers of Rice

Reactions as Federal Lawmakers Diverted President Tinubu
House of Representatives
Reactions have trailed the refusal of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to account for the Christmas/New Year Palliatives packages given to them to share with their constituents by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A source confirmed to The Round Table that each of the 360 members of the Nigerian House of Representatives received four trailers of 50kg rice and a N100 million cash transfer to share among their constituents, irrespective of their political party while the cash was expected to be used to purpose other commodity to alleviate poverty among the citizens at each of the 360 Federal constituencies in the country.

To alleviate the hardships brought about by the removal of the oil subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria, at least 1,440 trailers containing not less than 864,000 bags of 50kg rice were handed over to the members of the House of Representatives, with the intent to achieve even distribution of the palliative materials.

Also, money not less than N36 billion was shared among the members of the House of Representatives, with no member receiving less than N100 million. The money was given to the lawmakers to buy additional palliative materials for their constituents during the celebration of Christmas and New Year.

As of the time of filing this report, the majority of the members of the House of Representatives across the 360 Federal constituencies in the country are keeping mute about the Palliatives, while their constituents wallow in abject poverty and battle to meet their end means as a result of the hardships brought forth by the removal of oil subsidy, whose cause the Federal Government rolled out the Palliatives.

Reacting to the development, some citizens are calling on their National Assembly members to account for their palliative materials and ordered them to quickly call back the trailers of rice from where they might have diverted them.

For instance, in Odun State with 9 federal constituencies, only a member of the House of Representatives from Obòkun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Oluwole Oke, was said to have shared part of the rice with his constituents while the N100 million palliative was not accounted for.

Unfortunately, 8 other members of the House of Representatives from Osun State kept mute on the Palliatives [four trailers of 50kg rice and N100 million for each of the 8 House of Rep members] and still joined constituents to condemn President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for his failure to live up to expectations in cushioning the effect of the oil subsidy removal in the country.
