Bola Ahmed Tinubu With the All Progressives Congress (APC) producing 58 of the 98 Senators, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having a distance of 29 Senators against the APC, it is clear that whatever becomes the outcome of the remaining 11 Senatorial seats, APC has already taken the lead with the benefit of the simple majority. Hence, the party is bound to produce the next president of the senate in the next Assembly.
Although some political analysts are looking towards the Southeast to produce the next Senate President but the ethnic card played by the Southeast during the presidential election might have denied the region opportunity to produce the next President of the Senate.
Moreover, if the region has produced APC senator(s) regardless of the condemnable ethnic card it played during the presidential election, it might have been a different ballgame but with what is on the ground now, the next senate president may likely come from South-South or Northwest.
The fact is that Southwest has produced the presidency and the Vice President has emerged from the Northeast; Southeast is technically out of the selection. Now, the hope of producing the next Senate President lies in the North-Central, Northwest, and South-South.
North Central has produced Senate President for good 12 years since 1999. Recall that David Mark (Benue State, 2007 to 2015) and Bukola Saraki (Kwara State, 2015 to 2019). So, the region may be out of consideration for the post of Senate President in 2023.
Now, we can see that the two regions left for the position are South-South and Northwest.
If the position should go to the South-South, Senator Godswill Akpabio may likely get the support and the qualifications. However, if Northwest is considered, the position may find Senator Aliyu Wamakko from Sokoto State worthy. His loyalty, commitment, and qualifications are second to none in the region.
