Iyorchia Ayu Recently, the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu was suspended by the Benue State chapter of the party.
There was also a court injunction granted yesterday that mandates the embattled National Chairman to stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the party.
Interestingly, this is the beginning of another political season that may be prolonged to the politics of 2027. It is a Promax of the 2022/23 politics of the party and nothing in sight may stop this political trend from touching the line with the 2026/27 political season.
The fact is that all these political gimmicks are already coming from a side that is opposed to the continued stay of Iyorchia Ayu as the PDP National Chairman while his camp is yet to react, politically to the kick-off.
In the next few days, Iyorchia Ayu or members of his camp will surely approach a High Court whether in Adamawa, Delta, Sokoto, Abuja, or any of the states that may be considered favorable for his camp.
Two things are possible from the same source and this may lead the party into a chaotic moment.
The court may tell the parties to maintain a "Status Quo" and this may be given two parallel interpretations by the two parties in the case.
Iyorchia Ayu may want to proceed with his stay in Office as the means while his opponents may claim that the status quo is that the embattled National Chairman steps aside.
Eventually, this may surely lead to the factionalisation of PDP across the country with a faction paying their allegiance to Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman while the other faction appoints an Acting National Chairman.
One of the issues that may come up is whether the Acting Chairman of the party should come from the South or North, bearing in mind that PDP jettisoned her zoning formula during the last presidential primary of the party.
In the middle of the projected scenario, the National Working Committee of the party may recommend that Iyorchia Ayu steps aside while the issue of where the next Chairman or Acting National Chairman of the party should come from would be another obstacle that may forsake the party.
Mind me, there is the possibility of shooting up Taofeek Arapaja as the Acting Chairman or the next Chairman of the party. This may generate issues as the Constitution of the party clearly shows that "in the absence of a National Chairman, a Deputy National Chairman from his section of the country should take charge as the Acting Chairman.
Nevertheless, we should not forget the elevation of Arapaja from the Vice Chairman (South West) of the party to the Deputy National Chairman was a scene in the script. Whatever the crisis it generates, the scenario that had both the Presidential candidate and National Chairman of the party going from the North in the 2022/23 political sessions may be a point for vindication.
It would be a big joke if anyone thinks Atiku Abubakar would not fight back to resist the removal of Iyorchia Ayu or, at worse jettison Ayu to project a new loyalist as an Acting National Chairman of the party. We should not forget that Atiku has already begun plans to win the presidential ticket of the party back in 2027.
Interestingly, the likes of Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Bode George, and several other political bigwigs in the PDP would rise to entertain the political strength of Atiku Abubakar as the National Chairmanship tussle of PDP gets to the head.
Along the way, there would be heavy pitching of tents, as many members of the party may defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), the Labour Party, and some may prefer to form a new third-force political party.
