Ibadan Explosions The Oyo State Police Command has reacted to the massive explosions with loud bands that rocked the capital city of Oyo State, Ibadan, yesterday, Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.
Speaking on the explosions, the Police confirmed that the event occurred around Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of the metropolis.
Police confirmed the development but revealed it was still uncertain about the cause of the incident.
Police said, “Explosion around Dejo Oyelese Street Bodija Ibadan around 7:44 pm today Tuesday 17/01/2024.
“The cause of the explosion is unknown. Number of Dead and Injured is yet unknown as the search continues.
“The Oyo State Police Command has ample deployment to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” a statement from the spokesperson for the state police command, Adewale Osifeso said on Tuesday night.
“Updates coming up soon,” it added.
Earlier, the state government said it was investigating the explosion to determine its cause.
A loud bang was heard around Agbowo, Samonda, Sango, Orogun, and Bodija areas of the city on Tuesday evening, causing panic.
“The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan. Residents are urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident,” the state government said on Tuesday evening.
Many people are suspicious of the explosions, mostly, as they occurred a few hours after leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC Governors, Lawmakers, and key stakeholders who romance the incumbent administration of President Tinubu gathered at Ibadan to celebrate the 85th birthday of the former Osun State Governor a d pioneer National Chairman of the APC, Chief Adebisi Akande.
Recall that the scenario could be compared to a similar occurrence during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo when explosions claimed several lives in Lagos the same he visited the state.
