Police Arrests PDP Governorship Candidate in Ogun, Adebutu
Ladi Adebutu
The Ogun State Police Command arrested and detained the governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ladi Adebutu, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Hon. Adebutu was arrested and detained at the Eleweran Headquarters of the Police Command in connection with allegations of vote buying and money laundering leveled against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

He was detained after honoring a previous invitation sent to him by the police before he traveled out of the country, eight months ago.

Recall that Hon. Adebutu was accused of vote buying during the March 28 Governorship Election in the state. He was invited by the police but, without honoring the invitation, traveled out of the country for about eight months with the claim of receiving medical attention.

The trial has already commenced on the vote buying and money laundering allegations as nine people have already been charged at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta.

Already, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Zenith Bank have testified against the suspects. The court last sat on the case on Thursday, 7 December, 2023. Hearing is expected to resume in February next year.
