Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Kwatun Kwasu, 43; and Ahmed Hadiza, a 29-year-old female for allegedly defrauding their unidentified victims of N5 million in Edo State.

Police report shows that the suspected fraudsters who hail from Anambra State defrauded their victims of N5 million with the pretense of using the money to fund the building of a church in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

The spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that following a complaint launched by their victim, the Police commenced an investigation into the fraudulent allegation which led to the arrest of the two suspects.

Chidi said, “The suspects were alleged to have called on a notable personality in Edo State with the intent of defrauding him by appealing that they want to set up a committee to see that a particular church is rebuilt."

He said "because the man had the fear of God keyed into and paid N5 million to their account but thereafter he realized that the people were not genuine.

The victim reported the matter to the police and the suspects were arrested, adding that they confessed to the crime," Chidi stated.

In an interview with journalists, Katum who hails from Kaduna State said, “Yes, we defrauded him of N5 million.

“We used the money to pay for hotel accommodation and feeding. We lodged in a hotel and we were paying N8,000 per night. We have exhausted the money. We were in the hotel when the police arrested us.”

Hadiza on her part, said, “We are soliciting funds to rebuild a church that got burnt in Maiduguri and he requested for our account and sent us the money.”

”I am a graduate and there is no job. We spent the money on feeding, accommodation, and other things. We are left with nothing now.”
