Tonye Cole The Rivers States Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Cole, and the Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Emeka Beke, have been brutally attacked and beaten up by suspected political thugs and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
Tonye Cole, Emeka Beke, and other governorship candidates across political parties that contested the March 18 governorship election in the state were at the Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the governorship and state House of Assembly election results following the directive given by the electoral umpire on Friday.
Unfortunately, early today, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State mobilized in large numbers staging a protest at the State INEC Office. The protesting PDP members demand the CTC of the election results claiming that as the winner of the election, they deserve to be given the CTC.
However, the protesters later advanced to block all entrances to the INEC office which prevented Cole, Beke, and other parties' chieftains from accessing the INEC office.
Hoodlums suspected to be loyal to the PDP and some members of the party then used the opportunity to descend mercilessly on Cole, Beke, and a few other APC constituents at the scene.
Members of other parties, except the PDP, were later scared away by thugs who shot heavily into the air around all entries into the INEC Office.
No casualty has been established at the time of filing this report but cars belonging to the APC members were brutally vandalized.
Recall that the Round Table has earlier reported that Rivers State Gover is allegedly plotting to push APC on the edge of suffering a technical knockout at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal
