Universities in Ondo State Teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ondo state-owned higher institutions have resolved to greet 2024 with industrial action following the failure of the state government to pay their salaries and other benefits.
The New Year industrial action was declared in a statement titled "Why we may not resume work in January" which was released by Mr. Dayo Temola, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State.
He hints that the staff of all the higher institutions of learning in the state will not go back to class until all the salaries and other benefits owed to them are paid by the government.
"The decision to embark on strike on January 1, 2024, was taken by the Joint Actions Committee (JAC) of all the higher institutions in the state which held its meeting last week at the University of Medical Science, Ondo," Temola stated.
Among the schools that will be affected by the industrial action are Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba; Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa; and Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.
