PDP The political crises rocking Ondo State have taken a comic dimension as the political feud between the camp of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and political stakeholders in the state loyal to Lucky Aiyedatiwa settled their rift due to natural intervention which led to the demise of Rotimi Akeredolu.
Amazingly, as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sheath their sword after the death of Akeredolu and the emergence of Aiyedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State, the state chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has germinated a new breed of political crisis in the state.
The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party has ratified the suspension of the state party Chairman, Fatai Adams, in a scenario that seemed dramatic. Also, the Committee ratified the appointment of the Deputy Chairman of the party, Mr. Tola Alabere, as the Acting Chairman of the party.
The Ondo State PDP SEC stated that the suspension of Adams became mandatory after he was accused of anti-party activities, and he was given a week to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee to clarify himself.
Alabere’s appointment was ratified by nine out of the 11 members of the State Working Committee who include including Tola Alabere, Dayo Awude, Oluseye Olujimi, Amos Fadope, Moses Awofade, Boluwaji Bamidele, Olawumi Fasonu, and Kennedy Peretei.
The suspended Chairman, Adams, has however childed the decisions taken by the state executive committee as he claimed his purported suspension is a politically motivated one.
Adams states that those behind his suspension were willing to ease him out of the party affairs so they could manipulate the bye-election into the Akoko North-East Federal Constituency.
Also reacting to the suspension of Adams, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Oloogunagba, stated that the National Working Committee of the party has declared the suspension of Adams void and null with the claim that the state chapter of the party lacks legitimacy to suspend its Chairman. However, the Ondo State Executive Committee of PDP has defended its action claiming that according to the party’s constitution, all levels possess the power to discipline erring members within their ranks, including the state chairman.
Recall that the Ondo State Chairman of the PDP, Adams, played a major role in the agitation for the resignation of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, with calls for the inauguration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the Governor of the State when Akeredolu was sick.
Adams took his campaign for Aiyedatiwa to other states including granting interviews on radio stations in Osun State to further push for his interest in Aiyedatiwa becoming the Governor of Ondo State, even when Akeredolu was alive and recuperating in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
