Abdullahi Ganduje. Photo Credit: Twitter Amidst none prosperous economic policy in Nigeria, the hardships being faced by the citizens were heightened with the new naira policy which has regrettably in the scarcity of naira notes.
Hardships wrapped with uncertainty on the side of the Central Bank of Nigeria complying with the order issued by the Supreme Court, some business owners have refused to join the suit worsening the woes inflicted by the naira scarcity. This is because many businesses decline to accept the old naira notes whereas the new naira notes are scanty and not satisfactorily circulated.
To ease the hardships being caused by the new naira policy, some northern governors, including Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara and Nasir Elrufai of Kaduna approached the apex court in the country, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with a prayer to compel the Federal Government of Nigeria to stand down the February 10th deadline for the old notes to seize to become a legal tender in the country and allow both the new and old notes to be spent together until the old note strategically die a natural death.
The Supreme Court, which adjourned the case to February 15th granted an order which restrained the Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria from continuing with the February 10th deadline for the validity of the old notes.
However, it is unfortunate that a few numbers of citizens who are business owners are adamant to frustrate the efforts of the state governors who have gone to court for an order that relieved the citizens.
As it happened across States of the federation, the situation in Kano os nothing different, but Governor Ganduje seems to have laid the best foundation that could be built upon by other state governors to ameliorate the fifth columnists who parade themselves as business owners.
Like a popular supermarket in Kano State, Wellcare Supermarket went against the Supreme Court order rejecting the old naira notes from its customers. Governor Ganduje has taken the bold step, of shutting down the Wellcare Supermarket for rejecting old naira notes that have been adjudged as still being legal tender.
If all the state governors in Nigeria could do the same as Governor Ganduje has done, no single business outfit would be left aiding the infliction of hardship on the citizens by refusing to accept the old naira notes.
