Godwin Obaseki and Nyesom Wike The Executive Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has met with the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over who will become the next governor of Edo State.
Obaseki met with Wike at the Carlton Hotel, Abuja, last night, Tuesday, January 30th, 2024, our source revealed.
Our source further stated that Governor Obaseki used the opportunity of the meeting to disclose his preferred governorship aspirant for Edo State 2024 Governorship Election under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and solicited support of Nyesom Wike for his preferred governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo.
Also present at the meeting was Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was said to have brought Obaseki to beg Wike.
Recall that despite being the Governor of Adamawa State, Atiku Abubakar's home state, Governor Fintiri has been established by The Round Table to be a strong loyalist of Nyesom Wike, a perceived political opponent to Atiku Abubakar.
Our source disclosed that Obaseki begged Wike for “reconciliation” and apologized for previous misunderstanding he had with Wike in the past.
Obaseki also was said to have tabled a deal before Nyesom Wike, promising that "Ighodalo would be willing to pick Ogbeide-Ihama as his running mate if Wike buys in".
Recall that Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a former member of the House of Representatives and the preferred candidate of Dan Orbih, Wike’s strong ally, is in the race for the forthcoming Edo state Governorship election.
Our source, however, revealed that Nyesom Wike, reacting to Obaseki's deal told him point-blank that he was not ready to enter into any deal with Obaseki because he had proven to betray everyone who had helped him in the past, with no record of trustworthiness.
He further encouraged Obaseki to allow a level playing field so that the most acceptable candidate can win."
The Round Table learned that Governor Obaseki became restive following the perceived support the stakeholders of the party in Edo State are giving to Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, coupled with threats from Obaseki's deputy Phillip Shaibu, although Obaseki's preferred aspirant, Ighodalo boats he will win the governorship ticket of the party in the state.
