Recently, Nigerian social media spaces were filled with discussions on topics related to the successful military coup in the neighboring Niger Republic.

Touched mostly by the bond that relate the two countries in the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is considering deployment of Nigerian military against the Nigerien army in war to restore democracy to Niger Republic.

However, joking about the perceived weak strength of Nigerien military if compared to Nigerian army's strength, many Nigerians were of the opinion that the freshly graduated university and polytechnics students from Nigeria should be deployed against Nigerien army in war.

Although this opinion by some Nigerians online has generated mixed reactions from some Nigerians citizens, home and abroad, but it is important to note that this opinion was never that of the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the government has never thought of deploying Nigerian NYSC Corp members against the Nigerien military knowing fully well that the NYSC Corp members are bloody civilian, trained by the military not for war but for their self defense in the case of alarmity at their various places of deployment for their National Youths Service Scheme.

Not satisfied with the fears that the speculation has generated among the citizens, the National Youths Service Corps has officially reacted to the trend, denying the claim in an official statement titled "RE: CORPS MEMBERS TO BE DEPLOYED TO NIGER REPUBLIC TO FIGHT WAR TO RESTORE DEMOCRACY."

NYSC official statement reads:

"The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to a video circulating on the social media alleging that Corps Members would be deployed to Niger Republic by the Federal Government to fight a war for the restoration of democracy in the country.

"Management wishes to state that there is no iota of truth in the story fabricated by the purveyor, a skit and content creator, purposed to drive traffic to his platform.

"The general public, especially Corps Members, prospective Corps Members and their parents should disregard the story which borders on criminality in its entirety.

"Content and skit makers are strongly advised to desist from spreading false information capable of subverting the peace of the nation.

"Law Enforcement Agencies will stop at nothing to bring the purveyors of the story to justice.
