Nottingham Forest is facing another four-point deduction next season and will need to sell players to avoid a “serious” breach of financial rules.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that, if Forest breaches PSR again, they will likely be handed the same punishment as had been delivered to them this season.
This means players will have to be sold at the City Ground this summer in an attempt to raise money which can then be reinvested.
O’Rourke explained that there are “definitely” concerns at the club surrounding further PSR breaches next season, with their accounts to be released at the end of June.
Nottingham Forest points deduction threat emerges
With the club having suffered a four-point deduction already, they are now aware of the lingering threat of punishment for overspending.
That initial deduction plunged Nuno Espirito Santo’s team into a relegation battle, where they currently sit just three points above the relegation zone.
In a bid to balance the books given the previous £34.5million breach of PSR, Forest looks likely to be forced into selling several key players.
Some of the club’s top stars such as Morgan Gibbs-White have been tipped for exits this summer as they look to bring in funds for reinvestment, with Football Insider revealing the midfielder has a £50 million minimum price tag.
Football Insider sources also revealed that at least one of the club’s star players will have to leave the City Ground before 30 June to avoid a new points deduction.
The club will be desperate to avoid further deductions and will not make the same mistakes made with Brennan Johnson’s late sale last summer.
