Nigerians to Have a Rerun Presidential Election?

Nigeria Rerun Election
Presidential Election Petition Tribunal
One of the most trending news on Nigerian social media spaces is the claim that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal held in Abuja will likely recommend the country to have a Rerun election. In fact, some of the People propagating the story go far by claiming that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola has informed the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prepare himself for a rerun.

One of the many reasons being cited by the propagators of this trending news is that, in preparation for the rerun election, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strategically approved a huge sum of N500 billion, being money allocated for Condition cash transfer to about 12 million vulnerable citizens who could extremely find it tough to survive the economic hardship brought about by the removal of oil subsidy.

Many things having been said and heard, it is peculiar to have people thinking about rerun elections when there is certainly no affinity for such, as the proceedings at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal portray.

The ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal is one of the easiest cases to be thrown out of the judicial vehicle by the Justices, simply for some reasons.

One, recall that there are three major parties at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal; President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defending his victory at the keenly contested presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), claiming he was the authentic winner of the election and Mr. Peter Obi who also claims that he was the authentic winner of the election.

The fact is that the President of the country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a lesser job to be done in his defense, simply because the petitioners will surely defend him, although in a technical way.

What do I mean?

I mean there is no how Atiku Abubakar will justify his claim that he won the election without rubbishing all the evidence brought to court by Mr. Peter Obi who will also have to trash every piece of evidence brought to court by Atiku Abubakar if he really means business about his claim to victory.

Aside from the fact that the two petitioners will end up consuming themselves, clearing ways for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in their defense, something is very tantamount; Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi cannot both get a favorable judgment, and one of them cannot receive favorable judgment without trashing the other.

Now, this is where the case lies!

The best of the legal icons of the two petitioners is to mind their case, respectively, and concentrate their energies on the defendant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Interestingly, this will create so many loopholes and judicial confusion before the Justices who sit over the case.

The respective legal team will open so many arguments undecidable because they would be dodging themselves, running away from consuming each other.

In law, the judgment is simply, Court is not a dramatic scene where you act on a given script, no! You will have to prove your case otherwise the petition will be thrown out for lack of evidence and waste of the court time. This may attract fines on the petitioners, and probably their lawyers.

So far, as part of what has been argued at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, the supporters of Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi should rather get their principals prepared for the fines the case may attract, and possibly countdown for the 2027 presidential election, if they still have interest in the contest. There is no indication of a rerun, run-off, or removal of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Even, security and economic reasons are major reasons Nigerians should consider and stop believing in anyone propagating evangelism of rerun Presidential Election in Nigeria. Nigeria already has a President who will preside over the affairs of the country till 2027.
