House of Representatives
There have been mixed reactions as a fresh bill seeking the creation not three additional states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria surfaces in the House of Representatives.

The bill was sponsored by a 6th time member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Oluwole Oke, People's Democratic Party (PDP) of the Oriade/Obòkun Federal Constituency 9f Osun State.

The fresh bill asks for the creation of three additional states, domiciled in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. It scale through, passed, and assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the nill will make the number of states in Nigeria to be 39.

The proposed legislation which was titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)” contains Oke-Ogun, Ijebu, and Ife-Ijesa as the three proposed states.

The draft bill containing the proposal for the creation of the three additional states has Oke-Ogun State with Iseyin as the proposed capital city and would contain 12 local government areas from the present Oyo State.

The 12 local government areas that will make up Oke Ogun State are Olorunsogo, Irepo, Oorerelope, Ogbomosho North, Ogbomosho South, Saki-East, Saki-West, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola and Iseyin.

The draft also specified that Ijebu State will be made up of the following Local Government Areas from the current Ogun State: Ijebu East, Ijebu North-East, Ijebu Ode, Ikenne, Odogbolu, Ogun Waterside, Remo North and Sagamu LGAs. The proposed capital city for Ijebu State is Ijebu Ode.

Ife Ijesa State is to be made of 11 Local Government Areas from the current Osun State. The local government areas, as contained in the proposed bill are Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Boluwaduro, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ife South, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Oboku and Oriade. The capital city of Ife-Ijesa State is proposed to be Ile-Ife.

Reacting to the development many Nigerians have criticized the bill to be a "wasted effort in futility banking on a belief that the same government has failed to efficiently manage the country and complains of insufficient funds to run the current 36 states of the Federation.

However, while the majority of Nigerians condemn the proposal for the creation of three additional states, many Nigerians request for certain states to be added to the proposal.

Among the suggested states for inclusion in the draft are Southern Kaduna State, Northern Kaduna State, and State of Emergency.
