Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo
Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo has been elected as the New Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Hon Jumbo represents Bonny State Constituency and is a member of the Ehie Edison-led faction loyal to the Rivers Government.
This is coming amidst a renewed political rift between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
Recently, Governor Fubara was heard making a remark that the state has mo State House of Assembly and his position on the crisis rocking the party was for peace to reign in the state.
He said, "I accepted that peace accord to give them a floating. That's the truth. There is nothing in that peace accord that is a constitutional issue. It is a political solution to a problem. I accepted it because there were people that were visiting me and we were together in my house. These are people that I have helped... in many ways when I wasn't even a governor. Yes, we might have our disagreements, but I believe that one day, we could also come together. That was the reason I did it.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu invited Wike, Fubara, and political party leaders and stakeholders in Rivers to a meeting during the peak period of the crisis that bedeviled them, and assisted in resolving their political rift even though Governor Fubara was admonished by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and some leaders of the PDP to boycott the peace deal instituted by the President.
Rivers State House of Assembly amidst the renewed political hostility has renewed its move to impeach Governor Fubara.
Governor Fubara's loyalists among the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly is in the minority as Wike holds on to about 27 members of the house.
