Monarch Removal: Gov Adeleke and the Making of Osun A Banana Republic

Monarch Removal: Gov Adeleke and the Making of Osun A Banana Republic
Ademola Adeleke
Yesterday, the Osun State government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke released six white papers ordering the dethronement of two monarchs and a constitution of committee to go after the aides of the immediate past Governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, in search for official cars that were released to them by the former Governor.

Interestingly, Governor Ademola Adeleke has forgotten that there is a separation of power between the Judiciary, legislative, and Executive arms of government, and no one can insubordinate on the instance of another without amounting to the making of a Banana Republic.

In the case of the dethroned monarchs, Governor Ademola Adeleke had forgotten that the issues concerning the stools of Aare of Iree and Ọwá of Ìgbájo are still in court, and any of such cases remain out-of-bound for a legislator or executive official until the judiciary arm of government, handling the case, gives its resolution.

Any act of insubordination by the Executive arm of government as done, yesterday, by the Osun State Government under the leadership of Ademola Adeleke is a breach of law, abuse of power, disrespect to the judiciary sector, a case of gross misconduct, and the making of the state, a Banana Republic.

It is unfortunate to note that the Osun State Government recognized that the cases of the affected stools are still before a court of law, pending determination, but the Governor went ahead to rubbish the judiciary and declared the stools vacant.

Besides, Governor Ademola Adeleke is either running a vendetta administration or he is still not yet tutored on the Executive Power of the Office he is currently occupying, either proxy or otherwise.

Each Governor has a tenure of four years, and within that time, his Executive Power lasts for the time being.

Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola exercised his Executive Power within the legitimate period of his tenure, to release some vehicles to his aides including the Commissioners, Special Advisers, Director Generals of Agencies, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, local government administrators and some of the key political office holders in the state.

The vehicles released to them were the same ones used by the political officeholders to perform their duties under his administration, and he was empowered to determine whatever would be the fate of the vehicles as a sitting Governor, then.

In some states, and even at the Federer level including the Presidency, Senate, and the House of Representatives, this package is often converted to cash and would be paid to the beneficiaries, and this is part of what is called the "Take Home Package" in the Nigerian System of government.

No sitting Governor or President has the power to revert any decision taken by the predecessor, regarding this package so far there is no excess in the allocation.

Presently, what Governor Ademola Adeleke is doing is unfortunately injustice, upgraded lawlessness, and substantiation of Osun State being turned into a Banana Republic.
