Mixed Reactions as South Africa Mocks Nigeria A Generator Republic Amidst AFCON Tie
Nigeria vs South Africa
There were mixed reactions as some Nigerians dispensed wrath in rejection of a claim that South Africa tagged Nigeria a "Generator Republic" a few minutes before the kick-off time of the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match between the two nations.

A video clip making the round on social media showed an advertorial, claimed to have been aired across South African television stations.

The advertisement showed preparation for a football competition with all the fans and players ready for the kick-off, suddenly, the stadium lost its power supply, and electricity generating Set popularly known as a "Generator" started to power the pitch.

This allegation against South Africa has shut down social media spaces where some Nigerians expressed dissatisfaction over the advertorial.

Reacting to the clip, U.S.-based Nigerian, Reno Omokri, said "Good save by Nwabali!. Generator Republic is generating good plays!," as Nigeria played 0-0 at halftime with South Africa.

Also, a former anchor of the reality TV Show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", Frank Edoho said "South Africa tagging us 'Generator Republic'. At least we don't go shooting our musicians in cold blood.

South Africa-based Nigerian, Omotolani Adebanjo disagreed with the perception Nigerians at home have about the television advert, rather he said "I live in South Africa and they have been struggling with electricity for the past 3 years. They are actually mocking South African governments.

The Round Table earlier reported that Nigerian government wanted its citizens residing in South Africa to be careful of their actions while watching the match, and most especially of Nigeria wins.
