Man Declared Innocent After Spending 48 Years in Prison To Receive over N200 Million Compensation
Glynn Simmons
An Oklahoma man, Glynn Simmons, has been set free from prison after spending 48 years in prison over an allegation he was wrongly sentenced for.

Glynn Simmons was accused of the murder one Carolyn Sue and was convicted in 1973, when he was rotting in prison.

Although Glynn Simmons has always insisted that he did not commit the offense the trial judge in 1973 sentenced him alongside his co-accused, Don Roberts.

Unfortunately, a 2023 review of Glynn's conviction set him free of committing a murder, hence he has been wrongly sentenced since 1973.

Ruling on the case, Oklahoma County District Judge in the United States of America, Amy Palumbo said:

Glynn, who is now 71, was 23 when he was sentenced to death in 1973. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment in 1977.

Interest, following his freedom, Glynn is eligible to receive $175,000 (around 215 million Naira) in compensation for the wrong done to him. He could also sue Oklahoma City over the wrongful conviction.
