Olopoeyan and Makinde
Oyo State political stalwart and state leader of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan in a recent interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (Yoruba version), spoke on his new relationship with his erstwhile political friend and the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

Alhaji Olopoeyan stated that he is not more in a fight with the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. He acknowledged the role played by a Yoruba monarch Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, in the course of their reconciliation.

Olopoeyan who was a key player in the victory of Seyi Makinde during the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State felt betrayed when the Governor failed to carry him along with the business of governance in the state. As well, members of his political camp were not given a sense of belonging despite the role they played to bring Makinde to power. The scenario led to the exit of Olopoeyan from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the NNPP.

However, in his interview with the BBC Yoruba, Olopoeyan recalled that when the crisis between himself and Governor Makinde was perceived to be tough, he always exchanged calls with the Governor and the Governor did the same to him whenever the need arose, citing the lifespan of their friendship to be beyond 2019.

He said, although people may begin to see him and Makinde together at programs and government functions, he said he is no more a member of the PDP and that members of the party in the state should not find their new relationships as a threat. He restated his decision to remain in the NNPP despite his reconciliation with Governor Makinde.

Olopoeyan said he reconciled with Governor Seyi Makinde, long before his second term election. Although he refused to state what bond him with Makinde, however, he stated that he was the one who decided to excuse Seyi Makinde's PDP when he drew back and left the party, he therefore, said people should not be surprised when they see him with Makinde at any function.
