The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), in line with its statutory monitoring and enforcement operations, has removed 15 illegal attachments at Divine Homes Estate, located in Thomas Estate, Ajah, in Eti-Osa LGA of the State.

According to the General Manager, LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki the 15 illegal attachments were illegally converted from residential to commercial usage by their owners, a trend that is becoming rampant in the built sector of the State.

He further revealed that upon investigation it was noticed that parts of the residential units, including boys’ quarters and other sections of some buildings, in Divine Homes Estate were unlawfully converted into shops and utilised for other commercial activities which are in total disregard to the physical planning regulations and building codes of the state as well as a significant threat to the estate’s original plan of a residential area.

The General Manager also disclosed that before the removal of the illegal attachments Statutory Notices ranging from Contravention, Quit and Demolition Notices had earlier been served on the owners of the illegal attachments after their failure to revert to the original building plan approval granted them by the government.

Oki further reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizenry through thorough and effective monitoring of all ongoing building constructions in the State to ensure a harmonious, well-planned, secured and sustainable development where all forms of illegality are eradicated.

He emphasised LASBCA’s readiness to collaborate with Estate Executives and concerned citizens, for robust monitoring and enforcement activities in the State that will help uphold building regulations, promote safety, and maintain the unique character of each neighbourhood across the State.
