Some of the residents of Rivers State gathered at the Rivers State Government House early today, in protest, against the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in restoring normalcy to the state.
Recall that a few days ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu unveiled 8 resolutions to broker peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
Present at the venue of the protest are people who include students, youths, civil society organizations, labor unions, and members of the Hausa community.
The relevance of the protest remains skeptical as the intervention of Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis rocking the state has yielded results, positively.
Recall that before the intervention of President Tinubu in the political imbroglio rocking Rivers State, 27 lawmakers who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike have acquired a court order to commence preparation for the impeachment process of Governor Fubara.
Although the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been promising to step into the crisis rocking Rivers State leaders of the party, however, no action was feasibly taken by the party to the course.
Since the peace was broken between Siminalayi Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, high-ranking members of PDP have been restive, releasing frustrating statements to undermine the decision by the President to successfully restore normalcy to Rivers State.
Loyalists of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of PDP in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, have been critical of the peace deal that was successfully entered by the two warring parties in the Rivers political hullabaloo. Remembering that a media contractor to Osun State Government under the administration of Ademola Adeleke of PDP, Delẹ Momodu, recently said If he had the power, he would have punished Nyesom Wike long ago, the protest might have been under the sponsorship of those embittered by peaceful coexistence of Nyesom Wike and Siminalayi Fubara.
