Impeaching Gov Fubara Will Come With Price, Ijaw Youths Council Warns The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has chastised plans to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and destabilise the state, pledging to safeguard its interests.
The chairman of the council’s Eastern Zone, Prince Sukubo, made this known while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, prioritising that there were claimed plans to render null Fubara from office.
According to Sukubo, Friday’s Supreme Court rulings had been weaponised by individuals who did not have the state’s best interests at heart.
“We are aware of alarming plans by certain elements to destabilise Rivers State and undermine the mandate given to our voted officials.
“The so-called 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget is a calculated attempt to create chaos and potentially impeach the governor.
“Any move to impeach the governor would be an attack on our voted leadership and an affront to the will of the people, who have entrusted governance to an Ijaw man, Fubara,” he reported.
The IYC zonal chairman reproved that any attempt to impeach Fubara would amount to stealing the governor’s mandate, which was freely given to him by the electorate.
He emphasised that the people would exculpate their right to select their voted officials and adviced detractors to respect their decision.
Sukubo summoned all stakeholders to work together to maintain peace and stability by showcasing debate and cooperation over conflict.
According to him, the ambitions of a few individuals should not be allowed to jeopardise the future of the state and its people.
He further admonished that withholding federal allocations from the state would only exacerbate the misfortune competed with by workers and hinder development efforts.
