Lagos State Photo Credit; Google Images A few days before the general election in Nigeria, the political situation in the country is approaching its peak as the poll marks the end of a phase in the Democratic profile of the nation.
One of the most sensitive places where the election will take place in Lagos State. The case of Lagos in the forthcoming election is extreme for some reasons which may include the fact that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu hails from the state, the thick cosmopolitan nature of the state among other factors.
Although there are unusual insurrections in Lagos, it could be evidenced that All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the presidential, national assembly, governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
The great influence of Bola Tinubu in Lagos is high and indisputable. He controls the political structures in the state and, mostly the opposition parties in the state bow to his political magnificence when the bush catches fire, politically.
Coupling with the performance of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the state, the only opposition to the victory of APC in Lagos could be considered imaginary as the main opposition structure in the state has been broken into two, hence, APC will win Lagos with a wide margin.
Recall that the majority of opposition votes earned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the previous elections, mostly in 2019, have been slashed to two with PDP and Labour Party taking their shares. This will give APC tall feet to beat PDP and other parties in the presidential election.
Although the margin at the governorship and other elections may not be as wide as that of the Presidential in Lagos, APC will still win despite likely protest votes for PDP by members of the Labour Party who may do everything to stop APC. However, the combination of the PDP and Labour Party may not be enough to stop the winning chances of the APC, taking into consideration that APC is going into this election with no major fraction within the party.
The unity of APC members in Lagos, the candidacy of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the great performance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the in-fighting among PDP members, the splitting of PDP votes by the Labour Party supporters and the bragging by the Igbos to take over Lagos through Labour Party presidential ambition or supporting PDP governorship candidate, among others are the major factors that place APC far ahead of others in the forthcoming elections in Lagos.
