Tiv people of Benue State A guy has abandoned his wedding plan after the family of his wife-to-be insisted on N1.2m dowry.
Udam Samuel, friend of the husband-to-be, revealed their ordeal in a social media post.
Udam who was part of the team who followed his friend to Tombu, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State to finalize the marriage bill, disclosed that after handling the Marriage Bill to them, his friend was ready to settle part of the wedding bill which amounts to N600,000 but the family of the wife-to-be insisted on the original list which cost about N1.2 million.
Udam further stated that when the family refused to consider them, they abandoned the proceedings and returned to Makurdi, Benue State capital to continue their life activities.
He, however, appealed to the Tiv Traditional Council to see to the exorbitant cost of marrying a daughter from their land.
Recall that recently, The Round Table reported that the Paramount Ruler of the Idomaland in Benue State reviewed the marriage policy, among others in the community to ease the difficulty facing the people in getting married to a daughter of the land. In the policy, the traditional ruler of the Idomaland pegged the marriage bill to a bearable minimum.
