A young man identified as Biobelemoye David has, over the weekend in Imo State, reportedly abandoned his wedding ceremony and escaped into the bush as demands from the family of his wife-to-be became too unbearable. Biobelemoye David hails from Bayelsa State.

Giving an account of how the incident occurred, a Facebook user who shared the story on his timeline, Igwe Chibueze Ogadimma, stated that "David had already paid N1.5 million to the family of his wife-to-be, being money to cater for food, tents, chairs, and a public address system.

Speaking further on the incident, he said "The groom was also made to set aside N100,000 as the bride price that the two families had agreed on. In addition, the girl’s family asked him for another N50,000 as part of the bride price because he had already impregnated their daughter.

"It was gathered that on the wedding day, he arrived late because he missed his way, so they slammed him with a N10,000 fine for making a wrong turn.

"As if that was not enough, they also asked him to pay N15,000 to appease the elders who had become tired of waiting for his arrival.

"The drama escalated when twelve girls covered in loose robes from head to toe were paraded before Biobelemoye and he was asked to guess who his fiancée was. He pointed at the wrong woman and that led to yet another fine of N15,000.

"What made him reach the tipping point was when the elders demanded a refund of the total sum of N850,000 they spent repairing his bride’s father’s old car.

"Fuming with anger which he tried his best to hide, Biobelemoye David excused himself because he was pressed and disappeared into a nearby bush. The family said he switched off his phone and they later discovered he drove to Bayelsa from Imo.
