Sheik Daurawa The recent resignation of Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa as Kano Hisbah Commander-General was a result of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's remark about the shari'a police activities according to an investigation carried out by our correspondent in Kano.
Sheikh Daurawa announced his resignation from Kaduna state, where he was attending a special program related to his Command after the governor spoke on the arrests made by the Hisbah officers with an objective towards the enforcement of shari'a law on offenders following Islamic rites.
The governor's speech has created a heated argument between the people of Kano state, the Islamic scholars, commentators on current affairs in the state, as well as the political opposition members.
Speaking to The Round Table, Malam Mustapha Aminu, who is from an opposition party, disclosed that the governor's comment on the shari'a police has caused a heated debate about the issue that led to the resignation of Hisbah Commander General.
Similarly, a top figure in the Kano Hisbah command who pleaded anonymity told the Round Table "What His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir has done is the cause of the stir, and instead of him to utter any word to the command, he supposed to channel his grievances secretly to the Commander-General which would have been more appropriate.
At the time of filing this report, hot arguments remained a subject of discussion in Kano state where some residents condemned the governor's remarks while others called on Sheikh Daurawa to go back to his position, although this may be extremely difficult for him.
