Gov Sule Blames Northern Governors Over Violent Protest
Sule Lamido

Nasarawa State Governor, Sule Lamidi, has blamed his colleagues for non-performance which he logically related to the ongoing violent protest in the northern part of Nigeria. Give Sule revealed this while featuring on a Channel Television program.

Recall that ongoing nationwide protests over allegations of bad governance in Nigeria had gone violent in some northern states.

Many people were killed in Maiduguri, Borno State capital following an explosion during the protest.

Also, private and public property was looted and set ablaze by hoodlums during the protests in Kano and Kaduna States with records of death and property destruction in Jigawa, Yobe, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, and some other states in the North.

Reviewing the havoc caused by the protesters in the northern part of Nigeria, Governor Sule condemned some of his colleagues for not embarking on meaningful projects that cater for people's welfare despite the huge allocations being given to them by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He eulogized the President for believing in the governors which encouraged him to share with them, the money he saved from the relaxed oil subsidy regime. He reiterated that since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu's administration, no state can dispute the fact that their allocations have doubled. He was worried some of his colleagues were still not performing despite the huge amount of money made available to them.

He said: “No state will say that their revenue has not multiplied by two, sometimes doubled. In the past, the total amount of revenue shared monthly was around N600bn to maybe about ₦620bn maximum, sometimes even slightly lower. Today, you see the total amount being shared, N1.1trn, N1.2trn, and the rest of that.

“Every state, as well as the Federal Government, is receiving improved revenue; thanks to Mr President for allowing it to go like that. Because he would have said, ‘No, this is money meant for subsidy. Therefore, we are going to take it and divert it somewhere. No, but they are sharing it so that every state will go and do other things, and every state is doing.

“As a matter of fact, this protest that came, is an eye-opener, especially for my colleagues in the North. Even if anyone is not doing anything, this is the time to do something, because we can’t blame other people. I love the statement made by Shehu Sani (Senator) when he said to forget about the microscope and look at the mirror, and this is the time.

"For me, I can’t wait for next week or the week after, when we sit down as governors of Northern Nigeria, and tell each other the truth; we must do something. We have no reason not to do anything.”
