Hyacinth Alia Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has directed the State Welfare Secretary of the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Benjamin Omakolo, to take charge as the Acting Chairman of APC in the state.
This follows the controversial suspension of the State Chairman of the party in Benue State, Austin Agada, which was allegedly sponsored by another controversial chairman of Ehaje Ward one of the states.
A press statement released by the government spokesman, Sir Tersoo Kula, stated that Governor Alia endorsed Hon. Omakolo as a replacement for Hon. Agada when the State Executive Committee members of the APC, visited him at the Benue State Government House, Makurdi, on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, requesting that the vacant position of the State Chairman of the party be filled, to save it from further crisis.
However, the political party Constitution in Nigeria requires the party vice chairman in the state to take over the affairs of the party if the chairman is incapacitated to perform the duty of the office. Governor Alia's choice of installing a state Welfare Secretary as a replacement for the suspended state Chairman of APC remains strange to the constitution of the party, The Round Table understands.
Governor Hyacinth Alia also called on the supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to continue rooting for the party, saying it is the only platform that has good plans to change the fortunes of Benue State and Nigeria as a whole.
Among those who visited Governor Alia alongside the APC State Executive Committee members are the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh; the Secretary of the APC in Ogbadibo Local Government, Comrade Abba Isaiah; the Chairman of the APC in Konshisha Local Government, Hon. Aginde Daniel; and the State Assistant Legal Adviser of the party in the state, Hon. Ajuma Success.
