National Industrial Court A Federal High Court has stopped the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on industrial action pending the time that the court will decide on the matter before it.
The Federal Ministry of Justice had dragged the workers' congresses, NLC, and TUC to the National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja. The Federal Government of Nigeria asked the court to grant it an order of interim injunction to stop the defendant (NLC and TUC) and their members or agents from embarking on industrial action and/or strike of any nature pending the hearing and determination of the applicant's motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
After receiving the application, Justice O. y Anuwe of the National Industrial Court Abuja, therefore issued the order, stopping the NLC, TUC their members, staff, and servants from embarking on their proposed industrial action. The court thereafter adjourned the case till June 19 for a hearing.
The eastern faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress has earlier resolved to embark on industrial action, starting on Wednesday because of the removal of oil subsidy. Although NLC members from the Southwest and the Northern states have decided to boycott the planned industrial action.
Trade Union Congress have also resolved to stay out of joining the Industrial actions while they negotiate with the Federal Government on pay rise and increase in the minimum wage for the workers.
