Edo State House of Assembly has initiated the impeachment process against the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu.
The impeachment process was kick-started today with some members of the house sending impeachment notice to the Deputy Governor with a demand for his reply within seven days as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Shaibu's impeachment process was signed by 21 out of the 24 members of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Shaibu fell out with his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, following Obaseki's refusal to support his governorship ambition.
Governor Obaseki's preferred governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo, defeated Shaibu in the Edo State Governorship Primary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) conducted recently in the state capital, Benin City.
Since Deputy Governor Shaibu lost the support of Governor Obaseki and missed the governorship ticket of PDP to Ighodalo, he has repeatedly talked about attempts to Impeach him by the Governor's sponsored political forces. However, Shaibu unveiled his readiness to face the the battle.
