Emir of Ilorin Debunks Claim of Economic Hardship Protest at His Palace
Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari on Sunday debunked news of protest rocking his palace regarding the economic hardships biting the country.

Recall that The Round Table reported a video, allegedly claiming to be a protest at the palace of the Emir.

In the video clip, which went viral on many social media platforms, residents were seen dragging the gate of the palace, shouting "ebi npawa o, e funwa lounjẹ" meaning "We are hungry, give us food".

Debunking the video clip, the Emir Palace claimed the video was one of the scenarios that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic where residents staged protests across the country.

Speaking through his media aide, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir said:

“We want to state categorically that the said video was part of the events that were characterized and witnessed during the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

“The video does not have any connection with the current situation in the country. Recall that on such occasions, the Emir always expresses his concern about the need to ensure that peace and harmony continue to prevail in society.

“At the height of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the emir expressed a high level of concern and joined governments at all levels in the campaign towards ensuring that the unfortunate situation was contained while he also played frontline roles in championing the pains and interests of the masses during the scarcity of naira which inflicted hardship nationwide with no exemption to anyone irrespective of social, political and economic status.

“We hereby appeal to the general public to disregard the video to avoid any misrepresentation of the scenario vis a vis the location of the gathering as reflected.
